Sarah Ward, LMFT, CDS

With 25 years of experience in human systems, I provide clients with practical tools and insights that are rooted in life situations and family dynamics. My work spans individuals, families, business leaders, and communities, allowing me to gain a comprehensive understanding of social dynamics and pathways for effective change.

During my time as a Graduate Assistant in Marriage, Family, and Couples Therapy, I gained significant knowledge about family dynamics. My internship at a community mental health agency in further broadened my perspective on the importance of diverse family backgrounds and the critical role connection within our systems’ plays in overall well-being.

Since becoming licensed in 2009, I have streamlined my services to focus on coaching, mediation, and collaborative divorce strategies. Currently, I concentrate solely on coaching to facilitate personal growth and accomplish what clients set out to be and do!

My approach combines different theories and fields with a playful, curious and direct style to encourage change and connection, particularly in pivotal times. Family Systems Theory (FST) helps us understand how our relationships affect our behavior and relationships. By exploring these dynamics, clients can uncover patterns that impact their interactions, leading to positive changes in all areas of their lives.

Strategic Family Therapy (SFT) focuses on identifying and changing negative relationship patterns while enhancing positive attributes. Clients learn to see behaviors, decide which ones to keep and develop new, positive solutions, promoting growth in themselves and their systems.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) encourages clients to view their minds and bodies as made up of different parts, enhancing self-awareness and compassion for their inner systems. This often leads to a more integrated, responsive approach and improved outcomes.

Helen Fisher's research on personality types helps people manage relationships and make better choices. Gretchen Rubin's Four Tendencies framework allows clients to understand their motivations during changes in life.

Attachment Theory, explored by experts like Stan Tatkin, Dan Siegel, and the Gottmans, reveals important aspects of relationship dynamics. Recognizing attachment patterns helps individuals understand their behaviors and emotions. For example, identifying triggers that activate the nervous system can prevent fights and encourage productive discussions. Ultimately, this understanding helps break negative cycles and creates a healthier relationship environment, saving time and energy for everyone involved.

Recognizing roles in the Drama Triangle—Victim, Persecutor, Rescuer—maintains personal power and promotes calm in conflict, viewing challenges as growth opportunities. Breaking this cycle enhances emotional well-being, relationships, and decision-making.

Collaborative Law Practices and HCP Resolution provide tools for effective uncoupling and family transitions, ensuring resolution while preserving family integrity. Integrating these frameworks promotes change, connection, and empowerment in client journeys, fostering significant transformations and lasting relationships.
